Your Mission… should you choose to accept it

Two thousand years ago, following His resurrection, Christ left His disciples with one last instruction which would become known as the Great Commission:
Missions have always been central to the Orthodox way of life. Preaching, teaching, baptizing, and serving are among the primary functions of the Church. The Metropolis Mission Department was established in 1998 and the current executives are: Basilios Roccas (President), Patricia Rakopoulos (Vice President), Georgia Balogiannis (Secretary), and Terry Maropoulos (Treasurer). The Mission Department of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis aims to spread Christ’s good news to all people, and to help those in need around the world. To fulfill this mandate, several programs have been established over the years:

Little Angels Child Sponsorship Program

Dig a Well

Canister of Love

Support a Mission Priest

Precious Eyes

Furnish a Dormitory in an Orphanage
We want you to get involved! Discuss mission work with friends and bring it to the attention of your youth groups. There are so many programs to choose from and every dollar raised goes directly to those in need. If you’re at least 18 years old, then you might consider helping to spread the Good News of Christ to people in a different country. Youth over the age of 18 and young adults are encouraged to Join a Mission Team. Three mission teams have been sent to the Hogar Rafael Ayau (orphanage) in Guatemala over the last several years, and our newest team will be deployed Summer 2013! Stay tuned for more info.
