Two thousand years ago, following His resurrection, Christ left His disciples with one last instruction which would become known as the Great Commission:Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age
Missions have always been central to the Orthodox way of life. Preaching, teaching, baptizing, and serving are among the primary functions of the Church. The Metropolis Mission Department was established in 1998 and the current executives are: Basilios Roccas (President), Patricia Rakopoulos (Vice President), Georgia Balogiannis (Secretary), and Terry Maropoulos (Treasurer). The Mission Department of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis aims to spread Christ’s good news to all people, and to help those in need around the world. To fulfill this mandate, several programs have been established over the years:
Little Angels Child Sponsorship Program
Dig a Well
Canister of Love
Support a Mission Priest
Furnish a Dormitory in an Orphanage
We want you to get involved! Discuss mission work with friends and bring it to the attention of your youth groups. There are so many programs to choose from and every dollar raised goes directly to those in need. If you’re at least 18 years old, then you might consider helping to spread the Good News of Christ to people in a different country.
